The Second Annual Florida Keys National Wildlife Refuges Outdoor Fest was March 11-18, 2017
For the second year, FAVOR teamed up with the National Wildlife Refuges to present Outdoor Fest! This week-long event spanned the Florida Keys from Crocodile Lake in Key Largo all the way to Key West. this 100-plus mile long chain of islands is home to some of the most rare and endangered species of plant and animal species and unique habitats.
Guided nature walks to discover plants, birds, butterflies, amphibians, as well as mammals were offered in several locations along the Keys.
The Fest started in Key Largo at Crocodile Lake NWR with a Saturday family fun outdoor fair offering kids activities, vendors, music and food. The fair was followed by three days of outdoor activities including a very interesting guest speaker lecture series.
The focus moved down the Keys to activities centered around the National Key Deer Refuge, Great White Heron and Key West National Wildlife Refuges. Saturday, March 18, the final day of the Fest, began with a sunrise 5K Race to Run With Deer along roads in the National Key Deer Refuge, followed by an Outdoor Fair on Big Pine Key with over 20 environmental non profit booths, artisan marketplace, kids activities, food, and music.
Planning will soon begin for Outdoor Fest 2018! You can help make it a great success, by joining FAVOR, donating to the Silent Auction, becoming a Sponsor, and/or volunteering to help at any of these great activities!
